Does your favorite cookie happen to be Chocolate Chip? Then you have Ruth Graves Wakefield to thank for her invention. In 1930, Mrs. Wakefield was baking chocolate cookies at the roadside inn she ran when she discovered she was out of baker's chocolate. She substituted a broken up bar of Nestle's Semi-Sweet chocolate, expecting it to melt and be absorbed into the cookie. To her surprise that didn't happen and the delicious chocolate chip cookie was born! So next time you bite into one of these sweet treats, remember this month's famous woman inventor, Ruth Graves Wakefield.
